Consistent with ZISTHLP’s extensive and wide-ranging litigation portfolio, the Team also handle major disputes across all areas of their practice through the arbitration and alternative dispute resolution processes such as mediation and conciliation.

In Malaysia, the arbitrations have been in respect of insurance, reinsurance and disparate forms of contractual disputes. The arbitrations have been chaired by former High Court & Federal Court Judges and have been held at the Asian International Arbitration Centre (earlier known as Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration) over multiple day hearings.

In Singapore, the Team have acted for Swiss clients in an international arbitration at the Singapore International Arbitration Centre over oil trading contract disputes.

The Team consists of lawyers who have experience in arbitrations held in the London market relating to salvage and other maritime disputes. ZISTHLP also worked with Niru & Co LLC on various international arbitration matters. This includes a re-insurance dispute with an American reinsurance company in which Mr Niru Pillai led the Team. Mr Niru Pillai had also led the ZISTHLP arbitration team in arbitration proceedings for Petronas Carigali against a shipping company.

Mr Niru Pillai also led the ZISTHLP team in a substantial arbitration involving a claim for defective design and manufacture of equipment used in power plants, coming up against American, European and other international counsel.

The Team also currently advises and manage clients’ arbitration disputes in other jurisdictions.
